In collaboration with our partner in the Just Future project, Search for Common Ground we organized the project’s first townhall meeting in Bor. The meeting was attended by 3 advocacy groups established in Bor under Just Future including Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Women Peace Network, (WPN), and Joint Women and Youth Peace Network (WYPN).
Other stakeholders present included the Ministry of Peacebuding, Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare, RRC representatives, two Bor MPs, Municipal Council representatives, County Representatives, Jonglei State Women Association, Block leaders, Chiefs, and civil society leaders.
The meeting was officially opened by the member of parliament representing Bor town in Jonglei State Legislative Assembly, Hon. Maker Chol Adol. He said he is very happy because this project is creating space for them to interact with the citizens. He said lack of financial capability from the government has made it difficult for them to create space to interact with citizens and that they appreciate the work of international development partners for stepping in to fill the gaps.
The meeting was very interactive and addressed many issues around security affecting the people in Bor town. The MPs and Municipal Council representatives promised to address the security concerns presented by the community representatives through various channels.
The event was organized as part of the Just Future project implemented in South Sudan by the Just Future Alliance co-led by the international organizations; Cordaid and Search for Common Ground, and a network of national civil society organizations operating at different parts of South Sudan.
